So as I mentioned, got lots of reading done recently. Not all were on the book club list but my favorite was - The Known World by Edward P Jones.
This is a fictional study of slavery in fictional (I think) Manchester County Virginia. As Jones tells various resident's stories he paints a very different picture of slavery than I am used to.
He talks about black slave owners, blacks who could pass for whites, families torn apart, and families (even mixed race families) created.
The slavery Jones talks about is both more brutal and more humane than past glimpses from history class, etc.
Don't know how historically true Jones' book is, but it makes for fascinating reading.
Everyday is a challenge and an adventure. Welcome to the MacCarthy blog. Enjoy and please feel free to contribute. Blessings! Sandy (For the book club reading list, scroll down to the bottom of the blog. Everything we have read since 1999 is there!)

Clinton MO or Paris France?
One of my jobs is to call women to remind them that they are due for their mammograms. Today a patient said that her preferred clinic location was Paris! I told her I would make the appt if I could join her :).
We spent the last 9 days in KC MO with our wonderful in-laws. Picked up Dad-in-law and spent the time with brother and sister-in-law in small town about an hour out of KC MO. Jim spent time trying to catch a turkey in the woods but they proved very elusive - no turkey dinner for us! I got lots of R and R, reading and even wogged (walked/jogged) a few of the days!!!!! The picture is of one of the pastures I wogged past. Also passed lots of cows - all seemed to stare at me as if they had never seen a wogger before!!!!
Clinton MO or Paris France? I'll take where the people I care about are every time.

New GPI youtube video
Michelle spent months collecting pictures and videos. The result is a beautiful tribute to many of our GPI family's beloved pets.
He is Risen
What an Easter Celebration. Started with a community sunrise service in the cold and rain with 3 wonderful preachers and some incredible gospel music.
Ended with dinner with family - bittersweet memories and lots of laughter.
God is good.
