The End of the Affair by Graham Greene

The book I "had" to read as an English major at UW. The movie I just watched last night.

In WWII era Britain, Sarah is married to the stodgy but kindly statesman Henry. She has a passionate affair with Bendrix, a writer with a lot less stability and security. The affair ends abruptly after a bombing. Years later, Bendrix pieces together what happened with the help of a private investigator and his son.

Wonderful acting by Julianne Moore, Ralph Fiennes and Stephen Rea. Graham Greene's story is beautiful and complex with lots of surprises. Who does Bendrix hate? Who is Sarah in love with now? Hint is that Greene frequently addresses Christian issues in his writing.

Greene makes some interesting statements about love, faith, friendship and lots of other everyday human issues. Movie also beautifully shot in Britain including some great footage in the "Coney Island of Britain" - Brighton.

One last thing I loved about this movie is the way the director and/or screenwriter presents several scenes first through Bendrix's eyes, then through Sarah's.
